He is so smart and observant, and really curious too — his big eyes pick up everything and his big brain processes it all. Spiddleby is just one of a whole community of gorgeous and loveable monsters, the Monster Tribe, created by artist Christina Ayer (that’s me!). Each creature has its own very distinct personality and as much as they are all cute, funny and wierd, they are also intimate, vulnerable and so very very real.

And I am hatching new monsters every single day — its become a very weird and fun obsession. There are so many critters lined up in my head just waiting for their turn. I see them every time I close my eyes, in every splotch on the sidewalk, in every egg I fry.
