Iggy was watching Paolo work…

He was working on something important. It was a small box with wires sticking out of it and a big red button on top. He had been fiddling with it all morning (which was difficult because Paolo has no thumbs).

Iggy liked buttons, especially big red ones. He reached out a finger and pressed it.

HONK!

Paolo made a noise like a car horn.

Iggy stared at him. Then he pressed the button again.

Paolo’s arms flew up and began flapping wildly, like a chicken trying to take off. Iggy jumped up and down, flapping his little flippers with excitement. He pressed the button three more times. Paolo flapped faster, honked twice and wobbled dangerously on one foot.

This was the best button Iggy had ever seen.

He pressed it again. Paolo began spinning like a top, slowly at first, then faster and faster, until he was a blur of arms and legs. Iggy was laughing so hard he could barely stand. He hammered the button with both hands, and Paolo spun across the floor, bounced off a chair and collapsed in a heap.

Iggy waited for him to get up. Then he pressed the button again.

Nothing happened.

He pressed it harder. Still nothing.

Paolo lay on the floor, completely motionless. Iggy looked at the button, then at Paolo. He gave the box a little shake.

Paolo opened one eye.

“Battery’s flat,” he said.
