Meet Paolo

Paolo likes machines. He likes taking them apart, figuring out what makes them tick, and putting them back together again, preferably with a few improvements. He’s particularly fond of anything that goes fast, although his inventions don’t always stop quite as reliably as they start.

He’s clever, inventive and endlessly patient with mechanical problems. People are a little more complicated. Paolo isn’t particularly good at small talk, and he sometimes gets so absorbed in what he’s building that he forgets there’s anyone else in the room. He’s not unfriendly. He just finds engines easier to understand than conversations.

Unfortunately, Paolo has no thumbs. This is a considerable inconvenience for someone who spends so much time fiddling with tiny screws, delicate wires and complicated mechanisms. He’s developed some ingenious ways around the problem, although occasionally he has to ask someone to hold something while he works. Preferably someone who won’t press any buttons.

Paolo dreams of building the fastest machine in the world. He’s currently working on several promising designs, and has only had to rebuild his workshop twice.
